One of the reasons why poverty is rampant across the world is because people have become immune to it. As Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw puts it, “The worst sin towards our fellow creatures is not to hate them, but to be indifferent to them; that’s the essence of inhumanity.”
People must learn to reacquaint themselves with the world. It’s easy to complain about not having enough money, and it’s even easier to blame the government, but it’s easiest when people would simply stop caring.

This leads to a very serious dilemma, because the only thing that would cease the indifference is to make people understand the concept of “mercy.”
Mercy is a word that many people have forgotten. Merriam-Webster defines mercy as “compassion or forbearance shown … to one subject to one’s power.” In philanthropy, this definition is directed to the blessed to show compassion to less fortunate, the ones who do not have homes to return to.

While there are some establishments that are specifically built for the homeless, they usually run out of food and supplies needed by the poor. Since the government can only do so much for them, private organizations and philanthropists have taken the matter into their own hands. The wealthy have already donated billions of dollars to the needy, and many more are joining the crusade to lend a helping hand.
